The Eastern Shore Trip, April 27, 2013, Part 4: The Eastern Shore is Longer Than You Think!

Back on VA 184, headed toward US 13 again.

What looks to be an old factory or railroad depot slowly being consumed by nature.

More good signage. The bad signage virus hasn't found its way out here.

This rather small directional sign looks to have been whacked by something sharp.

Back on US 13 north.

As I mentioned in the last installment, US 13 on the Eastern Shore is both the Charles M. Lankford, Jr. Memorial Highway and the Ocean Highway.

A quadrifecta of signs.

A US 13 business route falls victim to the glare.

We stopped briefly at a fuel station.

VW EuroVan camper is cool, that street blade next to it is not.

Another business route.

Driving through parts of Virginia, you may get the impression that Highway Gothic is nearly extinct.

Most of it has been killed off in favor of too-large Clearview.

Eastville's iteration of US 13 Business.

Sunglasses required.

Entering Eastville, sort of. There's not much here.

Either this is just an odd arrow or someone stuck a sticker on the end of it to be facetious.

ERMAGERD TREHERNEVILLE

Not quite as interesting of a place name. The Eastern Shore has quite a few eccentric place names, however.

More conventional.

A good old secondary route shield.

The town of Nassawadox really wants you to know you're entering their town limits.

Franktown.

More picnic tables.

Yet another iteration of US 13 Business.

This one is for the town of Exmore, which is wicked important.

More good shields.

Buffet, anyone?

We'll be coming back to VA 183 later.

More scary street blades.

We'll also be visiting VA 178 again.

Enter Accomack County.

Getting close to where we want to be.

Multicolored pavement.

This company has a giant rooster as their logo/mascot/whatever.

The road that crosses here is about the width of a supermarket aisle with pavement that looks to have been put down by an elementary school science class (or, perhaps, Top Gear) on a rainy day.

Entering the village of Painter.

And here's our next stop, VA 182. This was the farthest north we travelled on US 13. Want to see more? Stay tuned!
