To the End of US 70, Part 2: Beaufort to Atlantic, NC.

Here's the exciting conclusion to yesterday's trip to Atlantic.

US 70 does a lot of this in its last thirty miles, as shown below.

This is the second of five times US 70 moves to a different roadway alignment between Beaufort and Atlantic. I'm also pretty sure this is the last traffic light on US 70.

Water is still never far away.

Switching around again and sign overload in the town of Smyrna.

Nobody around on a rare straight section.

Moving around again, this time in Davis.

This was probably the most advertised town this part of the trip, especially going westbound.

No matter how decrepit the location, you can always buy a newspaper.

US 70 encounters the southern terminus of NC 12, the one highway to rule them all, near Sealevel.

I actually got out of the car to get better pictures of this. NC 12 is on my shortlist of future trips.

Atlantic. Not much longer until. . .

End of the line. The roadway continues as Seashore Drive before ending at a marina.

US 70 ends at the intersection of it and Morris Drive, next to the Atlantic Fire Department. Make that right turn and it's 2385 miles to Globe, Arizona. It reached downtown Los Angeles at one point, but was replaced by Interstate 10.

The first US 70 shield headed westbound.

And I'll end this on a corny, late Fourth of July joke. This is a punctuation-free zone.
